In partnership with Elite Power Group, Maitland City Council expanded the network of electric vehicle chargers throughout the Maitland region under round two of the Drive Electric NSW EV Destination Charging Grants program, which funded $60,600 towards 22kW charging stations.
In addition to the Council’s contribution of $40,400, the NSW Government funded the rest which has totalled $101,000 for the project.
Expanding Maitland’s EV charging parking spaces to 14, Maitland City Council have added multiple 7-22kW AC Ocular electric vehicle chargers to help provide faster charging options for the Maitland community.
Elite Power Group was selected as the installer for the chargers as leading electric vehicle charger installers for Councils and businesses in the Maitland region.
The company’s vision of ‘empowering communities with electrical and renewable energy solutions’ aligned well with the Council’s goal of providing a future-proof charging network.
These new Ocular chargers are an investment into supporting the uptake of electric vehicles by providing EV charging infrastructure, and a network of convenient and accessible charging options for EV owners.
Maitland Deputy Mayor Cr Bill Hackney said ‘Maitland Council is eager to keep pace with this growth and broaden the charging options that are available to both local EV owners and those coming from out of town, who are often looking to stop and power up on their way through.'
‘EV chargers come with a host of benefits; many EV owners will map out long journeys based on where chargers are situated and visit nearby businesses while charging their vehicles.'
‘We’ve factored this into the equation when considering potential sites for these chargers and looked at positioning them near businesses and attractions in our central business district, or in locations where there is currently a scarcity of options, like Thornton or Gillieston Heights, and to complement investment in EV chargers made by businesses in Rutherford, Central and East Maitland.'
‘In April last year, Council passed a resolution to identify opportunities to expand its network of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and I’m pleased to see that goal come full circle today, with the wraps coming off these four charging sites.’
In accordance with the Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2030 target, Maitland City Council Manager said the Council is taking ‘great strides’ towards hitting the target.
The Ocular IQ Dual Tower was chosen because of a few reasons like heavy duty charging ports for long-term usage, dual charging capabilities, its free-standing design, and its ‘user-pays’ system for convenience.
Being able to charge at 22kW on three-phase allows electric vehicles to be charged faster within a few hours, depending on electric vehicle battery capacities.
Ocular chargers are designed in Australia for Australian weather conditions as well as commercial environments like public spaces, workplaces, shopping centres, and offices, which made it a great choice for this kind of application.
Partnering with Elite Power Group, Maitland City Council have invested in more electric vehicle chargers in the Maitland area, supporting the uptake of EVs.
