ENABLING APARTMENT RESIDENTS TO BENEFIT FROM SOLAR POWER

Alume’s SolShare is an Australian-developed technology that enables apartment buildings to also take advantage of daily solar generation.

Using SolShare’s smart hardware, they offer apartment building residents to be powered by solar energy by distributing solar energy in a fair and balanced way so that every residence gets access to a single rooftop solar system.

These units can be paired with any solar system and is designed to be installed for apartments and multi-residential dwellings, which otherwise would be missing out on solar power.

ALLUME SOLSHARE: HOW DOES SOLAR FOR APARTMENTS WORK?

As the apartment’s solar system is generating power, it is then fed to SolShare’s proprietary unit, which splits the solar and distributes it according to the demand of the building, maximising solar generation and minimising solar feed-in to the grid.

How does solar distribution work for each unit? In addition to their hardware, SolShare also offer dynamic distribution software algorithms that is responsible for sending the solar energy at the right time in a balanced way like equal distribution, or specific allocations to various apartment sizes and public spaces.

SolShare is primarily designed and used to supply multi-unit and apartment buildings by rooftop solar systems and grid-connected inverters.

CAN YOU MONITOR SOLSHARE SOLAR PRODUCTION & DISTRIBUTION?

Clients can access how much electricity they’re using and how much has been allocated. Customers can also access solar feed-in exports and maximising solar production and providing insight into the best times to consume energy to maximise the value of your solar.

SolShare controls the division of alternating current (AC) from a single load like a solar inverter and distributes it to multiple loads. To track solar energy fairly between connected apartments, SolShare is placed downstream of this AC power source, and every 200 milliseconds it analyses the demand of each connected unit and determines delivery.

REBATES & GRANTS FOR SOLAR SYSTEMS ON APARTMENT BUILDINGS

In addition to the most well-known solar subsidy, the small-scale renewable energy scheme, the NSW Government's Solar for Apartment Residents (SoAR) grant program is co-funded to support the installation of a shared rooftop solar PV system on eligible apartment buildings and other multi-unit dwellings in NSW.

SoAR covers up to 50% of eligible products and installation costs, with the remaining amount contributed by the owners corporation, and grants of up to $150,000 per project are available. Eligible costs include solar panels, inverters, mounting, solar sharing technology, labour and safety equipment (enabling works such as meter board or wiring upgrades are capped at 10% of the total project cost).

Status: Open. Applications opened 28 February 2025 and close 4 December 2026, 5:00 pm (or when funds are depleted), and funded projects must be completed by 30 April 2027. The program is administered by the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
