Available NSW Solar & Battery Rebates & Incentives in Australia: How to Claim

For those wanting to invest in their energy from solar power to battery storage and VPPs, you may be wondering what subsidies, rebates, and incentives are available for homes and businesses in Australia.

Let's explore both state and Federal schemes and programs to help you gain an understanding of available discounts that you may be able to claim for your solar, battery, hot water, and other installed systems in both 2025 and 2026.

Available Solar & Battery Rebates in Australia

Discover available rebates and incentives for homes and companies across Australia and NSW, helping households claim discounts on overall solar system costs, making renewable and smart energy more accessible.

Australian Solar Rebate

Federal / NSW Solar Rebate: Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES)

Being the most well-known solar rebate/subsidy in Australia and NSW, the Federal Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) is designed to help reduce the total cost of installing solar systems for both homes and businesses.

Whilst technically not defined as a rebate, it still provides a strong discount for solar systems by producing tradable Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STCs) for eligible installations.

When claiming the SRES, your system will generate an amount of STCs that are determined by your total system capacity and slowly diminish every year until 2030.

Only SAA-accredited solar installers can provide the discount which usually comes in the form of an upfront discount on the overall quote, which then we sell on your behalf.

Estimated Discount Value through the Australian Solar Rebate (2026 Calculations)

3kW Solar System – $700
5kW Solar System
– $1,190
6.6kW Solar System
– $1,575
8kW Solar System
– $1,925
10kW Solar System
– $2,415
13kW Solar System
– $3,115
20kW Solar System
- $4,830

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the SRES incentive you must:

STC value is based on the size of your solar system (up to 100kW) and what climate zone the system is installed.

How to Claim the Solar Rebate?

To claim the Australian solar subsidy, simply contact your local SAA-accredited installer who will automatically apply discounts, usually in an upfront discount on the total cost.

Cheaper Home Batteries Program: Australian Battery Rebate (SRES)

Joining the Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, otherwise known as the Australian Battery Rebate, is a program to enable discounts on the total installation cost of energy storage.

The Federal battery subsidy will enable both homes and businesses to get discounts on total battery installation costs, usually in the form of upfront discounts.

Being under the same SRES program as the solar rebate, it will also create STCs based on system capacity which slowly diminish until 2030.

Your local SAA-accredited battery installer will generally provide the battery subsidy discount in the form of an upfront discount on the total system installation quote, which then the STCs are traded on your behalf.

Federal Battery Rebate Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, you must:

  • Get a battery with 5-100kWh of Energy Capacity
  • Be a single unit (can be modular)
  • CEC-approved battery
  • VPP-compatible
  • Own a solar system or get solar installed along with the battery.
  • Ensure your installer is a SAA-accredited installer

How to Claim the Federal Battery Subsidy?

To claim the Australian solar subsidy, simply contact your local SAA-accredited installer who will automatically apply discounts, usually in an upfront discount on the total cost.

Home Virtual Power Plant Rebates & Incentive

Whilst the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS) has ended, the NSW Virtual Power Plant (VPP) rebate is still available for eligible households and businesses.

Connecting your battery to a Virtual Power Plant network will unlock an upfront rebate payment, and continual rewards through the program.

How to Claim the NSW VPP Rebate?

To claim the NSW Virtual Power Plant (VPP) rebate, simply choose a participating VPP network like Amber or Globird, sign the contract, and your VPP provider will provide you with available incentive and onboarding information.

VPP Rebate Eligibility Requirements

To access the NSW VPP rebate, you must:

  • Choose a VPP provider from the approved list
  • Have solar and an eligible battery between 2-28kWh installed
  • Be connected to the grid
  • Have not already claimed the VPP rebate

How to Claim the Federal Battery Subsidy?

To claim the Australian solar subsidy, simply contact your local SAA-accredited installer who will automatically apply discounts, usually in an upfront discount on the total cost.

Additional Solar & Battery Rebates & Incentives

Whilst both the Federal solar and battery rebates still apply to businesses, commercial property owners have access to commercial-only solar rebates and incentives for eligible businesses.

Solution: Solar     End Date: Ongoing    Property Type: Homes & Businesses

Residential & Commercial

Solar Feed-in-Tariff Incentive for Homes & Businesses

Another ongoing reward you access with solar is feed-in-tariffs (FiTs), where energy providers pay you for feeding your excess solar energy back into the grid.

Depending on what energy provider you're with, most will pay you around 5-10c per kWh for feeding back into the grid, depending on your location and production.

ENGIE, Energy Australia, and AGL all offer minimum and maximum FiTs, where you can claim the higher amount (around 8-10c/kWh) up to 10kW, which then drops to the minimum once exceeded.

Whilst this amount has slowly reduced over time as more people invest in solar, it's still a way to contribute to reducing your electricity bill and contributing to community renewable energy consumption.

Solar Rebate/Incentive for Apartments & Multi-Unit Dwellings

The Federal and NSW Government dedicated a total of $25 million in grant funding to fund 50% of the cost of shared solar PV systems on eligible apartment buildings and other multi-unit dwellings.

The solar for apartments grant will end on the 1st December 2025, or when the funds of $25 million are fully allocated, with a per-project cap set at $150,000.

‘Less than 2% of apartment buildings in NSW currently have solar systems installed. As energy costs climb and the number of people living in apartments continue to increase, innovative solutions are needed to allow apartment owners and renters to benefit from solar energy.'

More on solar for apartments here.

Eligibility Requirements

This solar grant is available for Strata managements to apply for buildings eligible under the following conditions:

  • Must be apartment buildings or multi-unit residential dwellings
  • Development is completed at the time of the application
  • Have not had solar installed in the past 10 years
  • Are located in NSW
  • Are registered under the Strata Schemes Development Act 2015
  • Have an active strata insurance policy

Solar Financing / Green Loans for Upfront Costs

With the rapid uptake of solar power Australia-wide, the initial cost of solar systems can be a barrier for many. Financing and loan options can be a great way to help home and business owners fund their solar installation with no upfront costs.

Providers like Plenti and Parker Lane both have accessible green loan options for those who are interested in getting solar soon rather than later. Both providers offer flexible terms and rates to enable more owners to consider getting solar.

Step 1: Talk to an Installer

Before anything, simply get in contact with an accredited solar installer to walk you through the best methods of financing and saving opportunities to ensure you get the most out of your system.

Step 2: Financing Options

Choose one of the providers’ flexible repayment options that best suits your budget and needs. Submit your application form and await approval.

Step 3: Approved Installation

Once your submission has been approved, your installer can get the ball rolling and organise your home solar system installation to enable you to start harnessing the sun’s energy.

Conclusion

Whilst there are only a few incentives for the community to invest in solar power, now is the perfect time to get solar to maximise your investment.

By getting in now, you get to get the maximum discount possible whilst the incentives diminish.

If you’re someone who has been considering getting solar, the statistics above are available as a part of a solar quote. Our team will collaborate with you to find the best solution possible, and a part of the quote is relevant statistics that your system could have. And all this is free, free quoting and consultation is a must to ensure you feel looked after.
